Mole Trapping FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

Our prices vary depending on the size of the area that trapping will be carried out in. We can be more accurate with pricing when carrying out a site survey.
For domestic mole clearances we charge between £160.00 – £240.00 which covers a small to medium sized garden and for 3 x visits.

Yes we do. We would carry out a site visit and survey to create an estimate for larger clearances of moles.

We’re based between Winchester and Andover and we cover a large amount of Hampshire and some parts of Wiltshire.

There are a few ‘old wives tales’ about how you can deter moles:

  • Putting glass or unpleasant smelling moth balls into the mole runs.
  • Placing electric pulse tubes in the soil with the hope that the vibrations will move the moles on.
  • Cutting bottles in half and placing them cap end in the ground so the noise from the wind over the bottle will keep the moles at a distance.
  • Planting certain types of shrubs, such as alliums and caper surge

Unfortunately there is no scientific credibility whatsoever behind these treatments and often, they will do more harm than good, making it harder to remove the moles.

The fact is, if your ground has lots of earthworms and grubs, there is little you can do to deter them. Professional trapping is the only reliable solution to treat an unwanted mole problem.

We aim to respond to mole call outs within 2 – 3 days, but if we are particularly busy it can be within 5 – 10 days.
The weather also plays a role in when we can schedule a visit, if it’s particularly wet or the ground is frozen then treatment may be held back.

Mole Facts

Moles have a knack for transforming your pristine lawn and garden into an unsightly landscape almost overnight. You may go to bed with a perfect garden and wake up to find what looks like a miniature mountain range across your property! These tunneling creatures cause significant damage by disturbing plant roots and turf as they excavate the soil, leading to shallow ground collapses. This makes mole control particularly crucial in areas where livestock, especially horses, are present.

Understanding Mole Behavior

Moles are generally solitary animals, except during their breeding season, which spans from February to June. During this time, they typically produce one litter each year, consisting of 3 to 4 young moles. Although this is changing as our weather is warming up – two litters within a season have been reported in recent studies of moles.

While moles rarely surface, the evidence of their presence is unmistakable. A single mole’s tunnel system can extend over an area ranging from 100 to 1,000 square meters. They construct extensive networks of permanent and feeding tunnels, which is when the impact of their activity becomes most apparent on your property.

By effectively managing moles, you can preserve the beauty and safety of your lawn and garden, ensuring a well-maintained environment for both you and your animals.

How to identify if you have an active mole infestation

  • Small to large mounds of soil appear on turfed areas or in flower borders.
    .
  • Small sized holes 2-3 inches appear in lawn areas or flower borders.
     .
  • Depressions in the ground which are felt underfoot, or raised areas about 2-4 inches in width, with sporadic patterns.
