Spot the signs

When should an ant problem be assessed?

A few ants outside are a normal part of the garden. Persistent activity indoors, ants around food or repeated problems after DIY treatment are reasons to seek advice.

Trails inside

Ants following the same route along worktops, skirting boards or doorways may be travelling to a food source.

Repeated activity

Ants returning after cleaning or treatment may indicate that the source of the activity has not been addressed.

Unusual indoor ants

Very small or pale ants, especially in heated buildings, need careful identification before products are applied.

Not every colony needs treatment. We assess the location and impact, then give straightforward advice on whether control is appropriate.

Why identification matters

Treating the visible ants alone may not deal with the colony. Baits can be carried back by foraging workers, while the right treatment depends on the species and location.

Some indoor species can spread when disturbed or treated with unsuitable sprays. Please tell us what has already been applied before we start.

Ant control FAQs

Why do I have ants indoors?

Worker ants often come inside looking for food. Crumbs, sweet spills and accessible food can attract them, and trails may lead back to a nest outside. Some species can nest within buildings, so identification matters.

What type of ants do I have?

Black garden ants are common, but appearance alone can be misleading. We assess the ants, where they are active and the conditions at your property before recommending treatment. A clear photograph can help with your initial enquiry.

What about flying ants?

Winged ants are reproductive members of a colony. Seasonal swarms are often short-lived and do not automatically need treatment. Repeated indoor activity or ants emerging within the building should be assessed.

Is one treatment enough?

It depends on the species, nest location and extent of activity. Some problems need a baiting programme and follow-up visits. We explain the likely timescale and planned visits after the survey, rather than promising an instant fix.

Are ants harmful?

Garden ants are usually more of a nuisance, particularly around food. Other species can raise different concerns in commercial or sensitive premises. We assess the species and setting before advising whether control is needed.

What should I do before a visit?

Store food securely, wipe up spills and note where the ants are travelling. Tell us about any products already used. Avoid adding sprays or disturbing bait once a treatment programme is in place, as this can interfere with control.

Is treatment suitable around children and pets?

Tell us about children, pets and any sensitive areas when booking. We choose appropriate products and placement for the site and explain the precautions, access restrictions and aftercare you need to follow.

When are payments expected?

Depending on the work and quotation, payment may be required upfront or at the end of a treatment. Payments may also be made on each visit to spread the cost, at the technician’s discretion.
