This Basingstoke visit involved seven wasp nests at different stages of development. It is a useful example of why each nest and its surroundings need assessing individually.
What we found
There were three small starter nests and four slightly larger nests that had begun to develop. The original case photograph shows the collection from the visit.
On this occasion we used a freezing treatment and did not need insecticide. That was the approach selected for this particular job; it does not mean the same method is suitable for every nest.
Choosing the appropriate approach
We consider the species, nest location, stage of activity and access before recommending work. A visible, accessible nest presents a different situation from one concealed in a roof space or wall cavity.
Not every nest needs treating
Where a nest is away from people and can remain undisturbed, leaving it alone may be appropriate. We discuss the risk and options before carrying out treatment.
