Wasp advice
A small nest in spring may be tucked into a shed, roof space or another sheltered spot. This early nest was found at a customer’s shed.
Small nests can be easy to overlook
Our original photograph shows a nest at an early stage. Activity may be limited at first, so you might notice only an occasional wasp returning to the same sheltered place.
Rather than relying on a predicted size or a fixed number of weeks, keep an eye on the location from a safe distance. Weather and the colony’s progress can affect what you see.
Consider the location
A nest away from people may not need treatment. A shed used daily, an entrance or an area where children and pets spend time calls for a different assessment.
Do not disturb a suspected nest
Avoid moving stored items around it, blocking its entrance or attempting to knock it down. Tell us where it is and how the area is used.
